We are always looking for volunteers to serve in various ministries.
Like most churches our hearts desire is to minister to God’s people and the community at large. To do so we must offer different ministries for different interest and age groups. Some of these ministries have their own links (Rock Solid Youth Ministry, Kid’s Church, Life Groups). We offer here a description of some of the other ministries we provide and participate in.
Adult Sunday School
Each week a different adult leads us in a Bible study. We currently have 12-15 adults ministering and leading the class which takes place at 9:00 A.M.
Altar Workers
Altar workers are trained to pray with the lost, sick, etc. during altar calls.
Benevolence Ministry
Helping to provide financing for the less fortunate is a part of true Christian ministry. Because most churches in our area are smaller and due to the fact that some individuals seek to steal from God we work with other area churches through the South Ripley Ministerial Association. By working together we are able to keep tabs on those who would take advantage of the generosity of the churches. We also can do more to help others by providing our resources. For those who live in the South Ripley area the Versailles Baptist Church has established a fund called “Helping Hands". To contact the Versailles Baptist Church call (812-689-5542) Mon – Fri., 8AM-Noon.
Care-Team
A ministry that is expanding and will include teams trained to visit the sick, take meals to families who have had surgeries or family loss etc.
CD Duplication—Team
The team duplicates our teaching CD's for anyone who signs up for them.
Church Board
Our Board oversees the administration and spiritual business of the church.
Cleaning
A number of families have volunteered to help clean the church weekly.
Core-Group Prayer
This is a prayer meeting that focuses on renewal and revival of our church and community. The prayer meeting is open to everyone in the church and is participatory in style.
Decorating Ministries
Several of our ladies make all the seasonal changes necessary in our décor, with many other touches added.
Follow-up
This team oversees the following up on visitors.
Greeters
Besides meeting people at the door with cordial greetings our greeters also make sure our quest needs are met and that they have received our guest pack.
Hostess
Our hostess makes sure that our guest speakers needs are met and is responsible to coordinate volunteers for all of our dinners and special events.
Jail Ministry
Sunday evening’s Ron Ford teaches at the Jennings County Jail.
Landscaping & mowing-Team
Takes care of our landscaping and faithfully mows our lawn.
Missions
Our reaching the world requires us to partner with others who are going there. Therefore, currently Church on the Rock is supporting 19 missionary and evangelist families on a monthly basis. We believe every church should give us much as God expects each individual to. In fact we try to give above the 10% in our missions offerings. We invite you to look at our binder of missionaries that we keep displayed in our church.
Nursery
A nursery is provided during each regular service after our worship time. We have assembled a caring group of ladies to not just watch the children but to also minister to them during the service. The nursery is for ages toddlers thru age 4.
Publicity-Team
Makes sure all of our events are put in the local newspaper or on the local radio stations.
Seamstresses
Several of our ladies have the gift of sewing use their abilities to bless us with drapes, banners, drama costumes etc.
Shofar Blowers
While they are not a regular part of our worship team several of our men are ready at God’s command to blow the Shofar horns.
Sound System & Power Point Over Head-Team
Without our trained soundmen we would never have the quality of worship we enjoy.
South Ripley Ministerial Association
Pastor Dean serves as the President of our local ministers association which has its regular meeting for area ministers at 9AM the first Thursday of each month. They are currently meeting at C.I. Family Worship Center 2377 E. Co Rd 250 S. Versailles for a time of prayer, devotion and discussion of business. Besides working together in the benevolence areas (see above) and newspaper articles the S.R.M.A. also provides a Bible Study for the Tyson Manor Seniors apartments and they do the camper’s services on Sunday mornings in the Versailles State Park Memorial Day through Labor Day. Working together to build unity in the Body of Christ the S.R.M.A. holds special services at these times each year: Good Friday; A Choir Festival usually held 2-3 weeks after Easter; National Day of Prayer the first Thursday of May; opening the Versailles Pumpkin Show with musical talent and prayer. All area ministers are invited to participate.
Support Ministries
Without the services of a multitude of volunteers little would be accomplished in most churches. The following is a brief list of ministries that assist the leadership of Church on the Rock in doing God’s will.
Ushers
Our ushers are trained to not only receive offerings but to also assist with our altar ministry.
Vision Team
The vision team is made up of 15-20 members who meet together monthly to discuss the vision of the church. Partly problem solving, partly think tank. The group not only has ideas on what to do but also goals and time it takes to get it accomplished.
Web-site
This ministry is expanding its knowledge in interactive web site development, as well a video graphics design and editing.
Worship Team
Joanna Grinnan leads our worship team and they lead the rest of us into God’s presence. Each Sunday morning they provide a heart stirring set of songs that engages the congregation into true worship. Upbeat and contemporary in style time is given in each service for God to speak. This requires not only being led by the Lord but also being musically prepared. Anyone wishing to join the group must become member of the church and attend 6 practices before actually participating on Sunday mornings.
Women’s Ministry
Our women’s ministry meets every second Saturday at 10AM for a powerful time of worship and teaching followed by a luncheon. Led by Paula Flint; each month a different speaker shares God’s Word. Then after a time of ministry the ladies gather for fellowship over a meal. The speakers, some from within the church and some not, change each month as do the topics. In fact even the lunch menu changes with different themes for the pitch-ins and occasional catered meals. All ladies 13 and above are welcome to join with this group for a powerful time with God. For more information call Paula Flint at 812-852-2254.
